GA Launches Local Craft Initiative

Friday 30th of December 2011

The heart of a local community often lies within its indigenous craft culture and history. Whether in the form of a local fishing industry that requires a local ability to supply nets and lobster pots or other traditional skills such as clock making, weaving, or even domestic knitting of woollen garments. Crafts and localised skills have been practiced and utilised in towns and villages all over the world since the beginning of time with many communities dividing into specialist skills in order to serve each other and the neighbouring population.

In the spirit of keeping such skills alive and encouraging their passage to future generations; Global Ambassador is endeavouring to open a Community Craft College in our home town of Epping on the outskirts of London. A venture that we hope will inspire similar initiatives all over the World.

Skills and Crafts are essential to the local economy and community spirit. It is something everyone at every skill level and age group can participate in, enjoy and share.

If you would like to get involved and set up a local Craft initiative – please get in touch and tell us what is needed in your area. We will be happy to advise and promote your cause in any way we can.

This is the building we are currently trying to acquire, a former junior school which is presently boarded up while a decission is made by the local Council as to its fate. We'll let you know how we get on...

Sponsorship is invited for this and other initiatives.
